Midweek Mood Boosters to Get You Through the Week!

The journey through the week can be a long one, and the push to get through until Friday can be a struggle.  I always love to treat myself to a pick-me-up during the middle of the week to perk up my mood.  These are some ideas that have been on my mind during this Autumn season.  Self-care doesn’t have to take a lot of extra time or cost any money, but most of us could stand to nurture that side of ourselves a bit. 🙂

Take an evening walk outside.

It’s no secret that a bit of fresh air can relieve stress and clear our minds.  The air is a little crisper and the trees are a bit more colorful this time of year which makes for incredibly calming evening walks.  I enjoy walking with a partner and chatting about our days while listening to the sounds of our neighborhood.  If we are lucky, we might just spot a red fox out and about!  If you prefer solitude, consider downloading a new album off Spotify, a podcast, or catch up with a chapter on Audible.

Take a bubble bath.

Something about sliding into a steaming bath full of light bubbles is pure bliss.  My favorite one is Lavender scented, but you can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oils for a divine scent.  I prefer to bliss out and completely pamper myself during this time.  I put on a face mask, deep conditioner in my hair, and scrub my body with a homemade sugar scrub (recipe to come!).  It feels like a complete rejuvenation when I get out.

Make a big batch of soup or comfort food.

I love, love, love cooking up a big batch of yummy food that will provide me with a few more meals throughout the week (gotta look out for your future self!).  Some of my favorites as of late have been Tortellini Tomato Soup and Butternut Squash, Kale, Feta, and Gnocchi.  Both of these recipes are quick and easy one pot meals, but provide the taste of autumn comfort!  I also always have 2-3 servings leftover for lunches and dinners throughout the rest of the week. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!  Both recipes are vegetarian, filling, and hit the spot— I’ll post the recipes soon!

Read a short book while sipping a warm cup of tea.

I love this trend of minimalistic poetry and micro books that can be read in a short period of time! Fix yourself a hot cup of herbal tea and sit back for an hour while diving head first into a poetic journey.  Some of my recent favorites include Milk and Honey, The Chaos of Longing, and Uncaged Wallflower. You will likely be able to finish the entire book in an hour and most end on words of hope and encouragement.  I love go on these mini-journeys with the authors.

Have a long yoga session.

Sign up for a candlelight class or have a lengthy home yoga practice on Tuesday or Wednesday evening.  Youtube has so many great yoga videos that will match just about any mood.  Exercise is one of my go-to mood boosters for any time, and yoga is favorite way to lift myself out of the midweek slog. I promise you’ll be feeling great during savasana.

Light your favorite candle and devote 30 minutes to meditation.

Any P.F. Candle is probably enough to boost my mood, but my favorite essential oil mix blowing out a diffuser is also a favorite aromatherapy treatment.  Sit back and enjoy the smells while meditation.  Get rid of that which does not serve you and reset your intention for the week.  Sometimes practicing 30 minutes of mindfulness is all we need to drastically change the course of our week.  Did you know that Spotify has many guided meditations available for listening?

Let me know what your midweek rituals include, specifically if you have any special ones that you prefer for this autumn season!  Something in the autumn air always makes me in the mood for that “hygge” cozy feeling that warms me up inside.  If you try any of these, I’d love to know if you found it boosted your mood!  I always get so caught up in the work grind during the week that it’s important to take a step back and care for myself.  Small investments in self provide huge returns 😉  Have an amazing day!
